Plastic is ubiquitous in our society and is used for a variety of purposes, from food packaging to electronics to clothing and toys. The effects of plastic pollution are catastrophic for our environment.
Millions of tons of waste are produced every day, much of it environmentally harmful plastic. Especially in the oceans, plastic causes severe damage to marine flora and fauna and also endangers human health.
Microplastics are particularly problematic because they enter the oceans through wastewater, meteorite, erosion, and illegal dumping, where they are ingested by marine organisms. Larger fish are also affected by microplastics, which also impairs the quality of seafood intended for consumption.
According to United Nations estimates, around 8 million tons of garbage end up in the world's oceans every year, of which around 80% is washed into the oceans from land, according to UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme).
Our collaboration with Plastic Bank
We prioritize two options for counteracting this negative trend. First, we should strive for product reusability in order to reduce the number of single-use products. Second, systematic recycling of plastics is essential. It goes without saying that the harmful pollution of seawater by plastic products must be rigorously reduced using all available means. In doing so, we must ensure that the current amount of garbage in the oceans is drastically reduced.
